How do you know make the perfect poached eggs?

I am totally crap at poaching eggs so I bought an egg-poacher! It's a deep sided frying pan that you boil water in, and then put the individual eggs into special little cups which sit in a grid above the water. They taste good, but they come out a funny shape. Good for building egg and bacon muffins though!
