What is the easiest way to relocate?

I currently live in Austin Texas and was recently offered a federal position just outside of Washington, DC. Unfortunately this position does not offer a relocation package (not negotiable with federal positions) therefore this is an expense I have to incur. I’m seeking suggestions from individual’s that have found themselves in a similar predicament. What are your suggestions on making this transition as painless as possible. It’s important for me to note that I relocated to Austin from Dallas only 8 months ago. I still own a home in Dallas, which I am considering selling along with the majority of my household goods and just starting fresh.
